What do I do if I forget my Login ID or password?
You can recover your credentials from the thinkorswim® login window.
If you forget your Login ID, click Forgot Login ID? on the login window. Enter your date of birth, the last 4 digits of your Social Security or Tax ID number, and your primary ZIP code, then click Continue and follow the prompts.
If you forget your password, enter your Login ID, click Continue, and click Forgot Password? below the Log In button. Enter your Login ID and the phone number on file with Schwab, then click Continue and follow the prompts to reset your password.
Where can I find my account number?
Your account number is displayed at the upper left corner of the main thinkorswim® window, next to Account. Click it to display all accounts linked to your username. Account numbers are 8 digits followed by SCHW. In paperMoney®, the account number begins with D-.
How do I switch between accounts?
At the upper left of the main thinkorswim® window, click the Account dropdown to open the account menu. In the menu, select the account you would like to display. To view the combined balances and positions of all accounts linked to your username, select <TOTAL>SCHW (ALL ACCOUNTS).
If an account is missing from the menu, it may be hidden. Click the gear icon ¢ on the hidden accounts line to open the User Setup window, then choose which accounts to display in the Display accounts section.
How do I set a default account?
To change your default account, which is marked with a house icon Ť, select " Setup in the top-right corner of the thinkorswim® window and click Application Settings…. Under General, choose the Account section, click the Default account dropdown and select the account you would like to use as the default. You can also select <TOTAL>SCHW (ALL ACCOUNTS) to display the combined view of all your linked accounts by default. Click Apply settings to save your changes.
How do I change my account nickname?
To change your nickname, open the User Setup window by clicking " Setup at the top-right corner of the thinkorswim® window and selecting Application Settings…. On the My profile tab, enter the new name in the Nickname field. Click Apply settings to save your changes.
How do I hide account information?
You can hide your personal financial data in thinkorswim® while continuing to use the platform. In the Account Info gadget at the upper left of the main window, click the down arrow @ next to Option Buying Power or Net Liq. In the dropdown that opens, click the Privacy toggle. Your account balances and account number are hidden throughout the platform and replaced with asterisks. To restore the display, click the Privacy toggle again.

How do I keep my thinkorswim® account secure?
Your thinkorswim® account is protected by SchwabSafe®, a collection of security measures designed to help keep your personal and financial information safe online.
One of these measures is two-factor authentication, which asks for a security code in addition to your Login ID and password. It is managed through your Schwab account and applies when you log in to thinkorswim®. To set it up:
- Log in to schwab.com.
- Click Profile, then select Security Settings.
- Select 2-Step Verification and choose whether to require verification Only on untrusted devices or Always at login.
- Pick a verification method, such as a text message to your mobile phone.
Within the platform, you can also set thinkorswim® to lock automatically after a period of inactivity:
- Click " Setup at the top-right corner of the main window and select Application Settings….
- Under the General tab, select the Security section.
- Choose a period from the Auto-lock timeout dropdown.
- Click Apply settings to save your changes.
To lock the platform manually, click " Setup and select Lock application.

When are funds from a sale available in my cash account?
In a cash account, funds from a sale are available for trading and withdrawal after the trade settles. Settlement times are governed by federal regulation. Stock and option trades settle one business day after the trade date.
How do I add funds to or reset my paperMoney® account?
In paperMoney®, select an individual account from the Account dropdown at the upper left of the main window.
- On the Monitor tab, click Activity and Positions, and find the Position Statement section.
- Click the Adjust Account button at the upper right of this section.
- In the Account Adjustments window, choose a new balance from the Set Account Cash to dropdown, or check Reset All Balances and Positions to reset your positions to zero and restore the default balance. You can also change the simulated account type with the Account Margin Type dropdown.
- Click Apply to save your changes.
